How long Vat Savitri Vrat runs
10–14hours
As commonly observed. The exact length turns on your date and where you are, and this site publishes no times. A day fast at the banyan tree. A day fast kept by married women, with puja performed at a banyan tree, broken after the ritual. Kept nirjala in many households.
As the dataset states it: Sunrise to the completion of the puja, commonly 10 to 14 hours.

What Vat Savitri Vrat is
Vat Savitri commemorates Savitri, who followed Yama to reclaim her husband's life, and the puja is performed at a vat — banyan — tree, which the observance is named for. It is kept by married women in North, West and East India, with regional differences over whether it falls on Amavasya or Purnima.
It falls in Jyeshtha, the hottest month, and the puja itself is often performed outdoors. Heat is the practical issue, exactly as with Nirjala Ekadashi, which falls in the same month.
Customs vary. The date differs by region — Amavasya in the north and west, Purnima in parts of the east and south — and whether the fast is nirjala or permits water is a family matter.
How this entry is drawn, and how the food is counted
- The observance is read from published accounts of Vat Savitri Vrat and written as commonly observed — never as required, never as correct. Where households differ, the entry says they differ.
- The arc above places the observed span between named stations of the day — sunrise, midday, sunset, moonrise — and never between times. Sehri, iftar, moonrise and sunset are local and religiously significant, and this site publishes none of them.
- The length is taken from the range the dataset itself states, as a range. Where the length turns on latitude and season, no duration is printed at all.
- Food energy is per the serving each item is really eaten in, from IFCT 2017 (ICMR–NIN) where the table has the food, and from a named alternative where it does not.
- Every food is reconciled against Atwater factors on each build, and a page that fails to reconcile does not ship.
serving kcal = per-100 g kcal × (serving g ÷ 100) energy check = 4·protein + 4·carbohydrate + 9·fat (±15%, ±20% high-fibre) day shape = observed span, station → station (no clock times, ever)

How to hold it without wrecking the week
This is the part nobody publishes well. None of it asks you to change the observance — training, sleep and meal timing are the variables you control, and the fast is not.
Training
A summer day fast is not a day for a hard or outdoor session. Move it, or keep it short and indoors.
Sleep
Usually unaffected, since the fast breaks in the day rather than at midnight.
Blood sugar
Standard caution for a 12-hour-plus fast with medication; heat makes readings harder to interpret.
Hydration
If your observance permits water, drink it. If it does not, the day before is what you control, and shade during the outdoor puja matters more than anything else.
The specific risk with Vat Savitri Vrat
Standing outdoors in June heat while fasting is the risk, not the fast alone. Shade, a seat, and someone with you make a real difference. Dizziness, a headache that will not clear or stopping sweating in heat mean stop.

Practices are described as commonly observed; customs differ by family, region, community and sampradaya, and this site is not an authority on any of them. Food values come from the Indian Food Composition Tables 2017 (ICMR–NIN), the older ICMR–NIN tables, USDA FoodData Central, named composition studies and the shared ThaliFacts dataset, reconciled against Atwater factors on every build. Which source applies to which food is listed per food, and every source carries the date it was last checked. General information only — not medical or religious guidance. Fasting is not safe for everyone, particularly during pregnancy or with diabetes or other conditions. Speak to a doctor first.
