590–720kcal
One serving of each food listed below, ±10% for the hand that cooks it. A scale check, not a target. The Tuesday fast for Hanuman. A single-meal day, customarily with food eaten once, often sweet — many households take only jaggery-based or wheat-based prasad food.
Sunrise until the evening, most commonly.

What Mangalwar Vrat is
Mangalwar vrat is dedicated to Hanuman and is widely kept, often for a fixed number of consecutive Tuesdays as a vow. It has a distinctive dietary custom in many households: only one meal, and in some traditions food that is sweet, or specifically not salty.
That salt restriction is the practically interesting part. A day with almost no sodium, in Indian heat, is a different physiological day from a day with normal salt — particularly for anyone who sweats heavily or trains.
The salt custom, whether the meal is sweet, and how many Tuesdays are kept all differ by family and region.
- The observance is read from published accounts of Mangalwar Vrat and written as commonly observed — कधीही आवश्यक म्हणून नाही, कधीही बरोबर म्हणून नाही.

Training
If your observance excludes salt for the day, a hard sweaty session is the one thing that combines badly with it — you lose sodium and cannot replace it. Lighter work, or an earlier session, is the usual adjustment.
Sleep
Unaffected in most observances.
Blood sugar
A day built on jaggery and sweet prasad is a high-sugar day, not a low-calorie one. For anyone managing blood glucose that is the opposite of what the word 'fast' suggests, and it is worth planning for.
Hydration
Water freely. Without salt, very large volumes of plain water are less useful than steady moderate ones — the body holds onto fluid better when there is some sodium to hold it with.
The specific risk with Mangalwar Vrat
The combination of a no-salt day, heat and heavy sweating can produce cramps, headache and unusual fatigue. If you are on a diuretic or have been told to watch your sodium, this is a specific thing to raise with your doctor.

Questions asked about Mangalwar Vrat
Why is salt avoided on Mangalwar?
It is a customary restriction in many households observing the Hanuman vrat, and the reasoning is religious rather than dietary. Practice differs — plenty of families keep the fast without any salt rule at all.
Is a sweet fasting day still a fast?
In observance terms, yes — that is what the custom is. In physiological terms, a day of jaggery and sweet prasad can carry as many calories as a normal day and more sugar. Both things are true at once.

Practices are described as commonly observed; customs differ by family, region, community and sampradaya, and this site is not an authority on any of them. Food values come from the Indian Food Composition Tables 2017 (ICMR–NIN), the older ICMR–NIN tables, USDA FoodData Central, named composition studies and the shared ThaliFacts dataset, reconciled against Atwater factors on every build. Which source applies to which food is listed per food, and every source carries the date it was last checked. General information only — not medical or religious guidance. Fasting is not safe for everyone, particularly during pregnancy or with diabetes or other conditions. Speak to a doctor first.
