Read this with it: Treat this one with more caution than the rest. IFCT's ripe papaya is far lighter than USDA's — about 24 kcal and 4.6 g of available carbohydrate against USDA's 43 kcal and roughly 9 g — and the gap is in the sugar, not in the method. Both are real analyses of real fruit; Indian papaya sampled for IFCT was simply less sweet. The Indian table is used because this is an Indian site, but if your papaya is a very sweet ripe one, the USDA figure is closer to what you are eating. IFCT also carries raw green papaya separately at D059, which is a vegetable and a different food.
How papaya is counted here
- The serving is the portion this food is actually eaten in — 1 katori cubes, taken as 150 g — कोणतेही सर्वसाधारण 100 g नाही.
- Composition is read off a named row: Indian Food Composition Tables 2017 (ICMR–NIN) (food code E049, Papaya, ripe (Carica papaya)), and the label on that row is printed above rather than hidden.
serving kcal = 24 kcal/100 g × (150 g ÷ 100) = 36 kcal check = 4·P + 4·C + 9·F (±15%, ±20% high-fibre)

Among the 12 entries in fruit on this site, papaya ranks
Protein supplies only 7% of its energy. Most of the vrat food list looks like this, which is exactly why उपवासादरम्यान प्रथिने is the guide people need most.
Is papaya eaten during a vrat?
It is commonly eaten during a phalahar vrat in most households. Customs differ by family, region and community — this describes what is usual, not what is required. On this site it appears in the food list for Shukravar Vrat (Santoshi Mata).
How many calories are in 1 katori cubes of papaya?
About 36 kcal for 1 katori cubes, taken as 150 g (ripe, edible portion). That is 0.6 g protein, 6.9 g carbohydrate and 0.3 g fat. Per 100 g it carries 24 kcal.
Is papaya filling, or just energy?
Protein supplies only about 7% of its energy, so treat it as fuel rather than as something that will keep you full. Fibre is moderate at 2.8 g per 100 g. On a vrat that matters more than usual, because so much of the permitted food list is rapidly digested starch.

Practices are described as commonly observed; customs differ by family, region, community and sampradaya, and this site is not an authority on any of them. Food values come from the Indian Food Composition Tables 2017 (ICMR–NIN), the older ICMR–NIN tables, USDA FoodData Central, named composition studies and the shared ThaliFacts dataset, reconciled against Atwater factors on every build. Which source applies to which food is listed per food, and every source carries the date it was last checked. General information only — not medical or religious guidance. Fasting is not safe for everyone, particularly during pregnancy or with diabetes or other conditions. Speak to a doctor first.
